Purchased by the registrant at Kariong Plant Fair, central New South Wales about 2005 because it appeared to be an interesting variation on a typical Aechmea recurvata type. In subsequent years it has been found to be a larger, very spiny form to 40cm. diameter with a wider inflorescence (7cm. across), broader vermillion orange leaves (15cm. long) at blooming and a flatter side profile (shorter floral stem / semi-recessed inflorescence) than a regular Aechmea recurvata var. recurvata. Possibly an intraspecific cross of var. ortgiesii x var. recurvata. Recurvata Group. Reg. Doc. 9/2018 by Ray Henderson. Country of origin: N.S.W. Australia
