AECHMEA ‘Malva’ ? / John Anderson* 1995

Mature, large, open, funnel-form rosette to over 1 metre diameter x over 1 metre high. In strong light, Broad, black-spined, leathery scurfed, purplish puce- coloured, strap-like leaves. Erect / leaning, branched spike to 1 metre tall with bright, orange-bracted fascicules and orange flowers. Wild-collected by John Anderson & Wally Berg in August 1995, North of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Identified as Ae. mulfordii by Harry Luther in 1998. 'Malva' is Brazilian for mauve which describes the colour of the leaves, Reg. Doc. 4/2003
