xNEOMEA ‘Caribbean Queen’ | ? / Cameron M & M* | <2004 | |
Mature rosette to 50cms. diameter. Glossy, pliant, lightly-spined, solid purple or maroon leaves in strong light. Short, slightly-raised brick red-bracted inflorescence to 15cms. tall, often ovoid-shaped or with central/side extended branches of green-based purple sepals and white petals. The breeder and parentage are unknown, but general consensus indicates this cultivar is bigeneric, specifically combining unknown species or hybrids of Aechmea with Neoregelia. This hybrid is thought to have originated in the Cairns, north Queensland area and later was grown further south by Inge Drake (Gold Coast) & Michelle/Mal Cameron (Brisbane) in the 2006-7 period onwards.
